Poor old Ike Tseng, visiting the USA in 1972 he saw a sign in a bike shop store saying "we dont repair poor quality Taiwanese bicycles", home he went, determined to change the perception of Taiwan and thanks to that we now have the quality bikes from Merida.

Starting with BMX and 10 speed road bikes, and then mountain bikes in the early 80's. And created their first ebike well ahead of time in 1995.
